Chef Evan Leroy + Obra
LeRoy and Lewis Barbecue’s impressive resume tells you all you need to know about the outstanding talents & influence of chef Evan LeRoy on New School BBQ and Texas’s broader dining ecosystem & reputation. To name only a few: #2 on Texas Monthly’s coveted Top 50 Barbecue Joints in 2025 (#5 in 2021), James Beard semifinalist (Best Chef: Texas, 2025), and a Michelin star (2024) to boot (What a list!). All this impressive hardware aside, Evan was on Obra’s radar to collaborate with because of his natural ability to connect with fans by inviting them behind the scenes of the L&L food truck, his international travel outings, and L&L’s (relatively) new brick & mortar restaurant. As fans, Obra Fam learned about these adventures and accolades through L&L’s video series (we highly encourage checking out their YouTube page here. Read the comments of any of the videos, and you’ll see Evan and his team have built a strong community of food devotees from around the world who appreciate his laidback style, wit, & willingness to share & educate through food. And yes, the food, service, and energy at L&L is incredible and will far surpass your expectations.
Stay tuned for Evan’s cookbook in Spring 2026 (Pre-Order here!)

As YouTube fans, Obra saw an opportunity to enhance Evan’s At Home video series by building an Obra Elements Kitchen Island worthy of his tutorials & decadent food creations. We pitched the collaboration to Evan, and he and his lovely wife, Lindsey, were down for the journey.
Working collaboratively, we designed and built a custom piece that addressed several key needs for their kitchen. This included dedicated storage for kitchen equipment, a unique surface suitable for both food preparation and as a display for Evan's At Home video series, and ensuring the new piece harmonized with the existing warmth of their home kitchen. To optimize storage, we increased the size of drawers and shelves to accommodate large kitchen gadgets that previously lacked designated spaces - a challenge we hear from most of our clients. Additionally, for enhanced flexibility, we incorporated wheels onto their Obra Elements Kitchen Island, allowing for easy movement at their home, and potential transport to the LeRoy and Lewis BBQ restaurant and other food events.
For Obra, it was invaluable to receive feedback from the F&B industry vets on what is necessary in their home-cooking space, and to help develop our best-practice modules for kitchen islands (Evan having recently designed L&L’s commercial kitchen, and Lindsey, part-owner of L&L and a PR tastemaker in the Austin F&B, Lifestyle, and NY Fashion industries).
After a smooth install, we enjoyed an incredible, hearty feast at LeRoy & Lewis Barbecue restaurant, and left day-dreaming of our next meal at the restaurant (of which there have been many).
We look forward to cheering on Evan, Lindsey, and the broader L&L team as they continue to elevate, lead, & inspire the Texas dining scene.
We requested a basic recipe to feature their custom Obra Island, and instead, Evan & Lindsey threw us a good ol’ fashioned neighborhood BBQ - talk about Texas hospitality!
